Privacy Policy
Short version: I only collect what you send me to talk about a project, I use it to reply and do the work, and I don't sell it or share it beyond the tools that run this site. Details below.
Who I am
This site is operated by Michael Janzen, doing business as data-nerd, an independent consultant based in London, Ontario, Canada. You can reach me at michael.g.janzen@gmail.com.
What I collect
- What you send through the contact form: your name, email, and optionally your company, the type of help you need, and your message.
- Basic technical data: like any website, my host records standard server logs (e.g., IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and reliability.
- Aggregate analytics (if enabled): anonymous, aggregate visit statistics via a privacy-friendly analytics service that does not use tracking cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and does not sell your data.
I do not use advertising trackers, and I don't collect anything you don't choose to give me.
Why I collect it
- To reply to your enquiry and discuss and deliver work you ask about.
- To keep the site secure and working.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so I can improve it.
Who it's shared with
I don't sell or rent your information. It is processed only by the service providers that run this site on my behalf:
- Netlify — hosts the site and processes contact-form submissions.
- Email — form submissions and messages reach me by email so I can respond.
- A privacy-friendly analytics provider, if analytics are enabled.
I may disclose information if required by law.
How long I keep it
I keep enquiry and project correspondence only as long as needed to respond, deliver work, and meet legal and tax obligations, then delete it. You can ask me to delete your information sooner (see below).
Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask to access, correct, or delete the personal information I hold about you, or withdraw consent. Email michael.g.janzen@gmail.com and I'll take care of it.
Security
I take reasonable measures to protect your information, and the site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but I treat your data with care.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date above.
